Throughout the UWP001 English writing class this quarter , I have learned a great deal about the concept of discourse communities .   I got to know that the discourse community is c ollection of people or groups that work towards a common goal through communication. This group develops a process for communication, a unique vocabulary of jargon, and a power structure tied to the source of their community.  Moreover , I learned that reading and writing are not just individual activities, but rather social processes that involve engagement with different discourse communities. I learned this through the different assignments and activities we did in class, including analyzing different texts and genres, participating in peer review and feedback, and researching a specific discourse community. One of the world's most delectable and diversified culinary traditions is considered to be Chinese cuisine. Chinese cuisine culture has been molded through thousands of years by a variety of variables, including as location, climate, religion, and cultural interchange. Chinese cuisine offers a wide variety of tastes, textures, and scents that entice the senses and satisfy the palate, from delicious stir-fries to steamy dim sum.  The emphasis on harmony and balance is one of the defining characteristics of Chinese cuisine culture. To create a balanced and nourishing meal experience, traditional Chinese cuisine meticulously considers the balance of flavors, colors, and textures. To produce a complex and gratifying flavor, the five basic flavors of sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and umami are blended in various ways. Chinese cuisine also emphasizes the importance of using seasonal and fresh ingredients, with many dishes including a wide range of different vegetables, fruits, and herbs. T

  Through my primary research on the Chinese food discourse community, I have identified several key themes and characteristics. These include a strong sense of cultural pride and authenticity, a focus on traditional cooking methods and ingredients, and a willingness to adapt to local tastes and preferences. Document Analysis

Members in my discourse community of Chinese Food Culture like to discuss the methods of how to cook some traditional dishes. These days, they are discussing about how to cook a dish called Gan Bian Si Ji Dou which also named sauteed green beans with minced pork. One of the members provided them with the recipe in website. To be more specific, the document is a recipe for making dry-fried string beans with a Sichuan twist. The author is also a blogger who like to share Chinese food and cooking methods. Her name is Judy and she was born in Shanghai, China, but she has gone to America at age 16 till now. She is fluent in both Chinese and English, so she is willing to translate some traditional Chinese recipe and cooking methods to English and share them with people who are interested in them. Chopstick and Chinese Food Culture

The tool almost every member in Chinese Food Community will use must be chopsticks. Just like in the western diet, people need to use a knife and fork to eat, chopsticks are the one people use in Chinese food diet. Therefore, a s a crucial component of Chinese cuisine, chopsticks have played a significant role in the culture. Chinese Food Discourse Community

  Discourse community is a group of people who share ways to claim, organize, communicate and evaluate meanings. Certainly, Chinese food culture has its own discourse community. To some extent, all Chinese people belong to this discourse community. But I also find two online discourse communities about Chinese food and Chinese food culture in Reddit and Youtube. I think most members in these two discourse community are ethnic Chinese and overseas Chinese like Chinese Americans. It also includes many other people like overseas students and foreigners who are interested in Chinese food. There are also chefs who can cook Chinese food to share their cooking experiences and methods. In general, this community has all kinds of people, different races from all over the world, and their jobs include students, office workers, chefs, even housewives and food bloggers. The age range is from teenagers in their 20s to seniors in their 60s. It is because food is the eternal theme of human beings, ev
